Denton looking dangerous

GOLF: DENTON ‘A’ are poised to strike as the Oldham and District Golf League reaches its halfway point.

Lee Merson’s men beat Brookdale 6-2 to move within a point of the top with a game at home to bottom club Werneth in hand.

Ashton could only manage three points in defeat away to Paul Pattinson’s Oldham, and Werneth captain Mark Abbott was delighted with a draw at second-placed Stamford.

Four teams are still eyeing honours in the ‘B’ division, with Brookdale making a sterling defence.

They toppled Denton 6-2 at home and lead by two from Saddleworth, who were disappointed to be held at home by Dukinfield.

Denton slipped to third and were joined by Stamford, spurred by a 6-2 away success at winless Werneth.

North Manchester ‘A’ set the pace in the ‘C’ division for new clubs to the league after an 8-0 whitewash of their own ‘B’ team.
