CRICKET:

DELPH eased to victory at Broad Oak in the Drakes Huddersfield League premiership.

Bilal Khiljee took four for 15 as they dismissed the hosts for 59.

And Delph sealed the win without losing a wicket, Irfan Zahoor top-scoring with 32.

In the Sykes Cup third round, Delph posted 312 for seven against Thongsbridge, who crumbled to 61 all out.

The match was played over two days due to rain.

Delph captain Grant Jones said: “The wicket was very green against Broad Oak so our bowlers had a field day, I wish we had those conditions every week!”

In the Frank Platt Championship, Micklehurst bowled out Almondbury for 97 before reaching their goal with two wickets in hand, M Blomeley contributing 31.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the table, Micklehurst are now only three points behind Meltham and Almondbury.


FAILSWORTH Macedonia earned a convincing victory on a rain-affected day in the Site Electrical North Manchester Cricket League division one.

They bowled out Westleigh Meths for just 25 before winning the contest with nine wickets in hand.

Springhead were dismissed for 140 by Rochdale Catholic Club, who cruised to their victory target for the loss of one wicket.

Results —

Division one: Failsworth Macedonia 29-1, Westleigh Meths 25 all out; Springhead 140, Rochdale Catholic Club 141-7.


WOODHOUSES slumped to a home defeat to Cheetham Hill in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League.



Batting first, the visitors raced to 238 before their final wicket fell.

Jimmy Clarke led the resistance with 48 but Woodhouses, who were without influential skipper Mike Cassidy, were dismissed for 173.




NEWTONHURST were in terrific form in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.



They made 239 for six against St Mary’s HC, thanks to an unbeaten ton from G Boyle (109).

In reply, St Mary’s finished 120 runs short of their target for the loss of eight wickets, K Lawrence posting 29.

In a match reduced to 25 overs, Heyside recorded 128 for nine against Europa Exiles,

P Robinson leading the way with 43.

T Finn’s 55 and 43 not out from P Hodgson secured victory for Europa.

Foresters made 110 for four against opponents Greengate, who were on 47 for one when rain intervened.
