Werneth back in business after slump

TWO wins in as many matches have lifted the gloom which threatened to engulf Werneth.
After a bright start to the Lake Garage CLL season in which they beat reigning champions Monton and Weaste, Andy Walker’s men suffered a series of defeats which sent them spinning to the wrong end of the table.
But victory over Unsworth and an impressive win at title hopefuls Milnrow last weekend have moved them to a mid-table berth which they could improve upon in the next couple of matches at Clifton and at home to Ashton.
Those games are followed by a derby showdown with arch-rivals Oldham, so the league table should make interesting reading for Walker’s men at the end of June.
All-rounder Alan Durose has been the stand-out performer for Werneth this season, but Mark Dronsfield and others have supported him up with the ball and the win at Milnrow was set up by professional Darren Shadford.
The former Lancashire player will have been disappointed with his contributions this season, but there was nothing wrong with his batting at Ladyhouse where he hit a match-winning unbeaten 112.
