Local trio set sights on home victory

CRICKET: ROYTON is the home venue as Central Lancashire take on Birkenhead in the British Parks Championship on Sunday (2pm).

Steve Copeland, Colin Lane and Mark Dwayre are local players in the home side, while the away team at Tixall BC includes Springbank pair Martin Hodson and Paul Heap.

TONGE’S relentless march towards the Manchester Premier League title continued with a superb 12-1.5 (206-132) victory over Liverpool outfit Richmond.



Thomas Dobson registered a fine 21-7 victory, but the performance of the night came from Mike Holden, who defeated the highly-rated Mike Tunstall 21-8.

Other winners for Tonge were Jimmy Derby (21-8), Matt Gillies (21-19), Colin Lane (21-15), Simon Coupe (21-11), Darren Griffiths (21-18), Gary Ellis (21-10) and Stuart Mort (21-15).

Tonge are away to Sale on Wednesday (7.30pm).




REIGNING champion Matt Gillies (Nimble Nook) is among the eight players in action in the Royle Classic in Rochdale tomorrow (6pm).



Others on the bill include his team-mate Jimmy Derby and Royton’s Steve Bolton.

Gillies will also be taking part in the £1,550 JW Lees Classic at Hopwood Unionist Club tonight (6.30pm).

The Oldham area is further represented by Alan Hodson, Jimmy Hynes, Paul Heap, Garry Coverdale and Colin Lane.
