Trio in supremacy battle

GOLF:

THREE teams are tied at the top of the Oldham and District Golf League’S ‘B’ Division.

Brookdale will have been pleased to get three points in a 5-3 defeat away to Ashton but 6-2 wins for Denton and Stamford saw them draw level.

Saddleworth’s defeat means they are now three adrift but still very much in the mix with six games to play.

In the ‘A’ Division Saddleworth did well to inflict a 6-2 home defeat on title-chasing Denton and the gap at the top grew to three as Ashton got a 4-4 draw away to Brookdale.

And it could have been even better for Ashton had the home side’s Pete Buckley and Paul Fry not come back from five down at the turn for an improbable 2 up success!

In the ‘C’ Division, North Manchester ‘A’ missed a real chance to get some daylight at the top when they lost 5-3 at home to Blackley ‘A’ who are now within a point of top spot.

And Gary Melling’s Crompton and Royton are not out of it after they drew level with third-placed Fairfield after a 6-2 success over their rivals.
