JACK Shaw shattered a club record when he scored 230 not out for Greenfield seconds against Moorside on Sunday.
The superb innings was only 20 runs short of Saddleworth pro Peter Skuse’s league best of 250 not out against Droylsden four years ago.
But it beat the club’s previous high score, set by Lawrencce O’Brien against Friarmere in 1999, when he recorded 172 not out.
Shaw (18), who lives in Greenfield, played in the same Lancashire under-11s side as Chris Gill and Adam Hayes but was dropped at under-13 level.
Disillusioned, Shaw turned his back on the sport for four seasons but decided to give it another crack.
Greenfield secretary Bob Weedon said: “In my opinion Lancashire made a mistake. Jack’s talent is there for all to see.
“He had a great season for our under-17s last year and has stepped it up again.”
