Ace Iqbal is Friarmere’s ton-up hero

CRICKET: LEADERS Bamford Fieldhouse suffered their first defeat of the season in the Armstrongs Office Supplies Saddleworth and District Cricket League yesterday.
Opponents Friarmere posted 267 for three, overseas amateur Zafar Iqbal scoring exactly 100 not out, before the table-toppers were restricted to 171 for seven. Mark Chadwick contributed an unbeaten 75.
Second-placed Shaw failed to capitalise. After dismissing Glodwick for 163 they were still 56 runs short of their target when their final wicket fell.
Heyside remain third despite defeat to Austerlands, who clinched a four-wicket victory in reply to 222 for seven.
Sidney De Silva was the star man for Austerlands, the pro making 95 with the bat and taking five for 85 with the ball.
Elsewhere, A Iqbal posted an unbeaten century for Hollinwood on the way to 207 for four, only for opponents Droylsden to achieve victory with three wickets to spare. Richard Mooney mustered a fine 78.
Lloyd Kingston recorded 53 not out in Moorside’s total of 216 for five against Saddleworth, who were dismissed for 148 in reply.
Greenfield were all out for 157 against Uppermill, who had earlier scored 201 for eight. James Baron scored 55 for Uppermill.
The top two were in much better shape on Saturday.
Bamford posted 116 for three in reply to Moorside’s 112 all out, while Shaw saw off Stayley for 125 before reaching their goal with four wickets in hand. Overseas amateur Andre Malan contributed an undefeated 75.
Heyside slipped up. They were bowled out for 205 against Uppermill, who won with six wickets in hand. Andy McVeigh made 58.
A Ur Rehman posted 62 as Friarmere made 246 for four against Greenfield, who ran out of overs on 162 for eight.
Saddleworth were dismissed for 188 by Glodwick, who won the contest by seven wickets.
Warren Lane pro Imran Aslam scored 85 not out and took seven for 72.

SADDLEWORTH’S second XI posted a huge 463 for four against Moorside in division two yesterday.
Brian Lord made 159 and Darren Beswick hit 130 in the mammoth total.
Moorside were dismissed for 75 in reply.
