BOWLS:

PAUL Heap (Springbank) won the Failsworth Bowling League’s President’s Cup, beating Brian Firman (HMSO)

21-11 in the final at Waterloo and Taunton.

Quarter-finals: John McNulty (Dog & Partridge) 21 Barry Seville (North Chadderton) 13; Firman 21 Mike Smith (High Crompton) 14; Mike Coleman (Phoenix Tavern) 9 Heap (Springbank) 21; Martin Hodson (Springbank) abs, Jack Lewis (Werneth Cricket ) w/o.

Semi-finals: McNulty 20, Firman 21; Heap 21 Lewis 14.

Heap raced from Waterloo and Taunton to Hopwood Unionist Club, Heywood, for the finals of the £1,550 J W Lees Classic.

But, after defeating Peter Craig and Andrew Buckley to reach the semi-finals, he let slip a 19-13 lead against Gary Ellis (Nimble Nook, Tonge) and was beaten 21-19.

Ellis was then beaten 21-5 in the final by Rawtenstall’s Andy Cairns.




MACCLESFIELD'S David Jackson was the latest finals night qualifier in the Royle Classic in Rochdale.



He defeated Hopwood’s Ryan Goodman 21-13 in the third round.
