Cannon aims to fire in play-off

...but Dave is eager to bring home the bacon

DEREK Cannon and Dave Bacon will go head to head to determine this year’s winner of the Holden Cup at CROMPTON and ROYTON.

They will fight it out in a play-off after they finished tied on 131 in the major competition.

Cannon carded nett scores of 65 and 66, while Bacon shot 64 and 67 in the two-round event.

The date for the play-off has yet to be decided.

Third was Bernard West after rounds of 66 and 67 (133), on the card from Paul Hopkinson (63-70=133).

Mark Pickering emerged victorious in a photo finish to clinch second-round honours.

He fired 72-7-65 to edge out rugby league referee Ian Smith (75-10-65) and Bernard Brame (71-6-65), on the card.

Dave Whitworth (75-9-66) was fourth-best, also on the card from veteran golfer Brian Smithies (75-9-66).
