WERNETH Under-18s were in excellent form with the bat as they beat Middleton in the CLL under-18s competition for the Whittaker Cup.

Middleton looked to have posted a healthy score when finishing on 216 for eight, George Walker hitting an unbeaten 50.

But the Coppice youngsters bettered that score for the loss of nine wickets.

Ali Umar and Matthew Foden both scored undefeated half-centuries.

Crompton (66) lost to Heywood (248-7) for whom Dale Latham hit an unbeaten 50.

But Oldham were much too strong for Bury.

The Pollards youngsters bowled out Bury for 95 before Craig Taylor, with an excellent 53 not out, steered them to a nine-wicket victory as the Pollards team reached 96 for one.

There was disappointment for Royton (127), who suffered defeat at Unsworth (159), while Walsden conceded their match against Rochdale.
