GREENGATE are the team to catch in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance.
They moved to the head of the table after a convincing win at home to St Mary’s HC, coupled with Newtonhurst’s defeat to Friends.
Visitors St Mary’s were restricted to 133 for eight.
S Jolly (26) and D Cadman (31) were among the runs, while S Wright and A Simpson claimed two wickets apiece.
In reply, an unbroken opening partnership saw Greengate stroll to victory.
Simpson completed a brilliant afternoon’s work by scoring an excellent 100, while V Clark made 23.
Friends picked up six points as they proved too good for Newtonhurst.
Inspired by Amin’s fine 89, Friends accumulated a daunting 253. S Drummond claimed three for 75.
Newtonhurst were never in the hunt and were dismissed for 115, despite 29 from G Boyle. Rashid was the chief destroyer with figures of four for 29.
Europa Exiles, the hosts, collapsed to 128 all out after being 96 for two at one stage.
A Bruce (37) and A Hodgson (21) scored runs early doors, but Exiles were soon pinned on the back foot once H Bailey (six for 20) discovered his length and line.
Spearheaded by M Kazi’s unbeaten 62, Foresters reached their target for the loss of three wickets.
Scores —
St Mary’s HC 133-8, Greengate 135-0; Friends 253, Newtonhurst 115; Europa Exiles 128, Foresters 129-3.
