FRIARMERE and Glodwick are the form sides in the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

After being second from bottom in early June, Friarmere are up to eighth in the table thanks to a run of five consecutive wins.

Glodwick sit fourth after three victories on the bounce, their latest victims being Stayley, who are now without a win since June 5.

Asif Qayyum, who has promised so much with the bat, finally delivered for Friarmere at lowly Saddleworth.

Last year’s professional at West View but now qualified to play as an amateur, Qayyum struck his maiden century for the club, a superb 101 out of a total of 301 for five.

Saddleworth, despite 59 from Ben Willis, were dismissed for 240 in reply.

Glodwick are also on a high after a four-wicket success at Warren Lane.

Nigel Stock’s team, who have got Friday’s Twenty20 Cup quarter-final tie at Austerlands to look forward to, restricted Stayley to 161 for nine.

Glodwick lost six wickets when it was their turn to bat, but former Delph player Imran Asghar stood firm for an unbeaten 52.

New signing from the Huddersfield League, Matt Britton struck his first ton for Moorside, who made it back-to-back victories at home to Shaw.

The right-hander hit 110, lifting the Turf Pit Lane outfit to 226 for five. Paid man JP Lee weighed in with 47.

Shaw, without overseas amateur Andre Malan who has returned home to South Africa because of personal issues, succumbed to 80 all out. Lloyd Kingston claimed five for six from 3.5 overs.

With Heyside winning at Hollinwood, Shaw dropped to third in the standings, 34 points adrift of table-toppers Bamford Fieldhouse.

Pro Roelof Hugo made an unbeaten 68 for Heyside, who had few alarms in overhauling Hollinwood’s score of 144.

Bamford, featuring a fine 109 from Simon Marshall, recorded an emphatic 115-run victory at home to Uppermill, who were hoping for a seventh straight league win.

The result leaves Paddy McKeown’s side 31 points clear of Heyside, with a game in hand.

After two reverses, Greenfield returned to winning ways with a 28-run defeat of Austerlands at Thorpe Lane.

Ryan Garlick took six of the seven Greenfield wickets to fall for 64 runs, but he was unable to remove Liam Parfitt, who scored a defiant 52 not out in a total of 192 from 45 overs.
