Juniors’ joy at emphatic win

Swimming: OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club’s fine season continued with an emphatic win over Radcliffe in a Central Lancashire Junior League meeting held at Oldham Sports Centre.

A 67-41 triumph came after each of the age groups competed in a freestyle, medley and squadron relay.

In the girls’ 12 years group, Amy Cunningham, Emma-Lee Poole, Kiandra Basnett and Sara Loft completed a clean sweep while in the same age bracket, the boys’ team of Kyle Clegg, Henry Coverley, Michael Entwistle and Daniel Fearnley did likewise.

There were other triple victories for Rebecca Lewis, Caitlin Wareing, Nicola Farrell and Olivia Askew in the girls’ 14 years age section, while in the 16 years bracket Jessica Fullalove, Chloe Basnett, Hannon Clegg and Rhiannon Prestage cleaned up.

In the 9/10 years age group, Lauren Scott, Imogen Sleith, Rebecca Loft and Olivia Green won the squadron and freestyle events with the boys’ team of Max Flanagan, Jamie Marsden, Dylan Arzoni and Shakeel Ali triumphing in the medley and freestyle events.

Joe Knight, Peter Cunningham, Sam Marsden and Oliver Coverley won freestyle and squadron relays in the 14 years age group and there were medley and freestyle victories for Harry Entwistle, Ian Martin, Sam Hill and Ash Ratchford in the 16 years bracket.

The mixed relays were just as productive for Oldham, who won 11 of the 12 events.

The 9/10 years team of Rebecca Loft, Dylan Arzoni, Olivia Green and Max Flanagan won the squadron and medley relays and Jamie Marsden stepped in for Flanagan in the mixed freestyle team, which also triumphed.

Kiandra Basnett, Kyle Clegg, Sara Loft and Michael Entwistle won the squadron relay in the 12 years age group, and when Emma-Lee Poole replaced Kiandra Basnett in the medley team it again resulted in a win. The freestyle relay team of Sara Loft, Daniel Fearnley, Emma-Lee Poole and Kyle Clegg made it a hat-trick of wins.

In the 14 years freestyle relay, Nicola Farrell, Joe Knight, Olivia Askew and Peter Cunningham were winners.

Oliver Coverley replaced Knight in the medley team which also secured victory, with the squadron relay team of Rebecca Lewis, Oliver Coverley, Olivia Askew and Peter Cunningham completing a hat-trick of wins in this age group.

Finally, in the 16 years age group the medley team of Jessica Fullalove, Harry Entwistle, Hannah Clegg and Sam Hill claimed victory, as did the freestyle team of Rhiannon Prestage, Ash Ratchford, Jessica Fullalove and Harry Entwistle.
