Tonge continue march to Premier title

TONGE continued their winning streak in the Manchester Premier League with a 10-4.5 victory over Warrington side Pierpoints.

The Tonge winners were Gary Ellis, Darren Griffiths, Jimmy Derby, Colin Lane, Andrew Cairns, Steve Squire and Lawrence Hallett.

Tonge’s next match is at top Wigan outfit Garswood Hall on Wednesday (7.30pm).




GARY Ellis carries local hopes in the final of the Nursery Open in Stockport tomorrow night (6pm) when he takes on Ashley Daykin (Huddersfield).




ENTRIES are being accepted for the Saddleworth League’s Tweed Cup, heats for which will be played on Saturday, July 24 (1.30pm practice, 2pm start and strike-out) at Hollinwood Cricket, Springhead, North Chadderton and Friezland.


The finals will be held at Delph BC on Sunday, July 25 (12.45pm practice, 1.15pm start and strike-out).

RECENT Greater Manchester Merit winner Gareth Gwilliam is one of four finalists in the Royle Summer Classic in Rochdale tomorrow (6pm).



Also bidding for the top prize are Rochdale’s John Wade and Darren Holt and Macclesfield’s David Jackson.

SPRINGBANK’S Steve Copeland teams up with Rochdale’s Mike Holden in the heats of the Thwaites men’s pairs at Norden BC on Sunday (5.30pm).



Entries are being taken for Norden’s Your Choice men’s singles which has heats on Sundays August 22 and 29, and September 5 and 12 (6pm). The finals will be held on Sunday, September 19.
