Oldham’s four-star shoot-out

GOLF: FOUR Oldham members will take part in a play-off to determine the winner of the Captain’s Final.

Played over three rounds, with the best score in round one or two added to the final-round score, the competition saw Lee Newsome, Barry Robinson, Mick Ganley and John Waterhouse return identical totals.

They now play in Oldham’s next major - the Clegg Cup on July 31 - to find the winner.

Winner of the club’s Spoon competition, run in conjunction with the Captain’s Final, was Colin Hare (81-19-62).

Steve Daubney (71-8-63) was runner-up, on the card from Steve Mills (75-12-63).

BROOKDALE will face Houldsworth in the Oldham and District Rabbits League’s Cup final.



Houldsworth scored 46 points to top their pool ahead of Oldham on 29.

Brookdale topped their pool with 34 points, from Stamford on 33.

Brookdale gained maximum points in their league match against Oldham to close the gap on leaders Houldsworth to four points.

Houldsworth have 37 points, Brookdale 33 and Stamford 30.




CROMPTON and Royton will stage the 25th anniversary of their pro-am at the course on August 5 (11.30am, shotgun start).



Possibly the last time the tournament will be held, it will be a celebratory occasion with a marquee laid on and refreshments for the players.

The tournament is fully booked with 23 teams taking part, but anyone who wishes to go along to watch on the day will be made welcome.
