Heyside stage memorial match

CRICKET HEYSIDE CC are staging the first Dave Firth Memorial match on Sunday (start 1.30pm).
Dave, who died on New Year’s Day at the age of 50, was a former player at the Little Hey Street club and later served as secretary.
The ‘Heyside 90s Leg Ends XI’ features Mark Barnes, Glenn Dawson, Tony Heaton, Andy Goodridge, Aneil Patel and Phil Oxendale.
Their opponents, the ‘Heyside Young Guns’, includes among others Dave’s son, Steve, first-team captain Nick Campbell, professional Roelof Hugo, Ben Holt, Liam Garnett and Lee Watkinson.
There is a raffle on the day, with disco karaoke to finish the night off.
All proceeds will go to Dr Kershaw’s and the Heyside junior cricket development fund.
Dave was in the Heyside team that dominated the Saddleworth and District Cricket League scene in the mid-1990s, winning three league titles and two Tanner Cups.
