WERNETH breathed a huge sigh of relief after staggering over the winning line in their Lake Garage CLL match at Radcliffe on Saturday.

Matt Taylor took four for 20 as the hosts were skittled for a meagre 86.

When rain intervened, that target was reduced to 74 off 32 overs, but Werneth made heavy weather of achieving victory.

They lost eight wickets before reaching their goal, Michael Burns causing a few heart flutters with four for 20.

ROYTON were brushed aside by a powerful Littleborough outfit at Hare Hill.

Boro batted first and made 196 for eight thanks to 40 from Danny Thewlis and an unbeaten 33 from Nick Grindrod. Ryan Mayes took five for 103 and Royton professional Luke Procter three for 81.

After a delay for rain, Royton were set a revised target of 134 off 28 overs, but that proved beyond them and they were bowled out for a disappointing 87. Boro overseas amateur Warron Williams took five for 36.

CROMPTON were no match for title-chasing Rochdale at Glebe Street.

Blasted out for only 76 - Neil Avery taking four for 15 and Anthony Clough four for 34 - Crompton could do little as Rochdale raced to 77 for one.

OLDHAM'S game against Unsworth at the Pollards was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Norden stayed at the top of the table thanks to a 74-run victory over Clifton.

ROYTON are out of the John Willie Lees Twenty20 Competition after suffering a 10-wicket defeat at Littleborough on Friday night.

Liam Brown (26) and John Punchard (25) were the only scorers of note as Royton were restricted to 94 for eight after batting first.

Warron Williams, who took three for 18, completed a fine all-round performance with a rapid unbeaten 61 as the hosts raced to 98-0, professional Clinton Perren supporting him with 27 not out.

Oldham's game against Norden was postponed because of the morning’s heavy rain and, weather permitting, will be played this Friday.

Clifton, who beat Heywood, and Milnrow, easy winners at Radcliffe, joined Littleborough in the semi-finals.

Scores: Heywood 111, Clifton 112-4 (Lord 53); Radcliffe 53, Milnrow 57-1; Littleborough 98-0 (Williams 61 n.o.), Royton 94-8 (Brown 26, J Punchard 25, Williams 3-18).
