FOOTBALL:
SANTOS AFC have two adult teams playing in the Lancashire and Cheshire League and start their fifth season in existence with a new manager at the helm.
Veteran Jonny Phillips takes charge in a player-manager capacity and is well known within football circles, having played for Stalybridge Celtic, Mossley, Ashton United, Oldham Town and Royton Town.
New and existing players have been hard at work in pre-season training at Clayton Playing Fields ahead of the new season, which kicks off on August 21.
Chairman Ian Dunkerley said: “Jonny is already working very hard to ensure pre-season is planned thoroughly and friendly matches are organised.
“I believe that this season, with the right attitude from the players and club officials, we will be pushing for league and cup honours.”
