Zelem’s festival chance

CRICKET:

TALENTED teenager Ross Zelem has been selected for the north region in the Bunbury Festival in Chester, which gets under way on Monday.

The festival brings together the cream of 15-year-old cricketers in the country, and Zelem will be looking to further enhance his burgeoning reputation.

The young batsman faces a sequence of five games in as as many days against the Midlands, South, West, East and London areas.

A product of the Woodhouses junior set-up, the Blue Coat pupil captains Lancashire under-15s and is a member of the Red Rose county’s emerging players programme.

Zelem now plays his cricket at Heywood in the Lake Garage CLL, and he is held in such high regard at Crimble, that he opens the batting for the first XI. He recently scored 53 against Royton.



Charity day at Micklehurst

Micklehurst Cricket Club are hosting a charity day (9am) tomorrow in honour of Mossley soldier Joseph Etchells, who died serving his country in Afghanistan.

Various events will take place on the day. All money raised will go to ‘Help For Heroes’, which supports wounded service personnel.

Micklehurst are without a fixture in the Drakes Huddersfield League Frank Platt Championship this weekend.


DELPH will try for the fourth time tonight, weather permitting, to play their Huddersfield League Twenty20 Cup quarter-final tie at Rastrick (6.30pm)
