Double Delight at Delph

Date published: 26 July 2010

THERE was double delight for Delph as they secured two consecutive victories to give their season a timely boost.

Grant Jones’s team had been left reeling when defeat to Drakes Huddersfield League premiership leaders Honley ended their hopes of lifting the title.

But triumphs at Barkisland in the league and Rastrick in the Romida Twenty20 quarter-final brought fresh hope for an exciting end to the campaign.

Delph restricted Barkisland to 167 for seven, Arron Lilley claiming three for 28. The visitors reached their target with four wickets in hand, Bilal Khiljee top scoring with 57.

Lilley was also in fine form in the cup game, taking three for 17 as Rastrick were bowled out for 120.

Faisal Butt posted 46 as Delph cruised to a seven-wicket win.

Delph face Elland at home in the semi-finals tomorrow (6.30pm).

Woodhouses enjoyed a comfortable weekend in the Lees Brewery Lancashire County League division one.

Luke Swards took four for 47 as visitors Thornham were dismissed for 125.

In reply, Josh Tolley’s 50 not out helped his side to an eight-wicket win.

The visitors 24 hours later were Denton, who were bowled out for 186, Sam Sweeney claiming seven for 53.

Tolley scored 86 not out and skipper Mike Cassidy pitched in with an undefeated 76 as the hosts reached their goal with nine wickets to spare.
