Bowls community rallies round after horror crash

CROWN green bowling in Greater Manchester has been rocked by news of Sunday’s M62 minibus crash which left several top players with serious injuries.

County men Nicky Brooks, Andrew Lowe, Mark Dwayre and Thomas Dobson each suffered broken bones, cuts and bruises in the smash.

The accident, which made the national news, sparked numerous messages of support and concern on bowls website 21up.

Brooks, Dwayre and Dobson had been due to represent Greater Manchester in Sunday’s County Championship semi-final against the North Midlands.

The selectors will need to make changes for the home leg at the George and Dragon, Hyde, where Brooks and Dobson, members of Tonge BC in the Manchester Premier League, were due to play.

Dwayre (Royton) was picked for Manchester’s away team in Coventry.
