Chadderton off to a flying start — but Boro jinx strikes
Date published: 09 August 2010
CHADDERTON got off to a flying start on the opening day of the Vodkat North-West Counties League division one season.
They saw off Eccleshall 4-1, with James Curley getting on the scoresheet after just 14 seconds.
Adam Edwards doubled the lead after half an hour, before Curley made it 3-0 just before the break.
It could have been a much bigger margin at half-time. Curley had two efforts ruled out for offside.
He also hit the crossbar during an action-packed 45 minutes.
After the break Eccleshall threw caution to the wind and piled men forward.
Chadderton capitalised, breaking from a corner through Leon Melia, who scored with a scorching strike from all of 40 yards to put the outcome beyond doubt.
Curley could have completed his hat-trick but missed a penalty, before Eccleshall pulled a goal back late on from a corner.
Ashford Blake made his debut for the home side and impressed with some fine link-up play with Curley.
Chadderton look to maintain their good form when they host Cheadle Town tomorrow.
OLDHAM Boro went down to a 1-0 defeat at Ashton Town.
Boss Tony Mills said before the game that Town were his bogey side and a decisive penalty in the 84th minute will have done little to change his mind.
