Oldham Rangers’ one-mile fun run sets off at Clayton playing fields.
ATHLETICS:
YOUNGSTERS and adults turned out in force for Oldham Rangers’ one-mile fun run at Clayton playing fields.
The club, which will compete in the North Bury League this season, wanted to find an enjoyable way of raising money for new training kits.
Michael Franklin, manager of the under-six and under-seven sides, helped to organise the event.
He said: “We had three or four different age groups present on the day, and at least half of them came with their parents.
“Luckily, the weather was kind to us, because obviously that can make a big difference.
“Our mascot, Charlie Chadderton, came along in his bear costume and after the run people took penalties against him.
“He proved to be as popular as ever, people couldn’t get enough of him!
“After that, the children played a match against the grown-ups which was a lot of fun.”
Franklin said the amount of money raised is yet to be confirmed but it will easily make it into three figures.
He added: “Everyone involved deserves a big pat on the back. It was a success and we’re confident a lot of money came in as a result.
“I would like to thank all those people who took the time and trouble to participate, they all made a big difference and we can look forward to this season.”
