Third time unlucky for Delph
Date published: 12 August 2010
CRICKET: DELPH suffered defeat in the Romida Sykes Cup final for the third time in five years when they were beaten by Skelmanthorpe at Honley.
Skipper Grant Jones identified Test batsman Wasim Jaffer and Qaiser Rashid as threats and he was proved correct.
Jaffer posted 115 not out while Rashid mustered an undefeated 118 in an
eight-wicket triumph, after Delph had recorded 239 for six.
Jones and Co. now turn their attention to securing a top-three finish in the Drakes Huddersfield League premiership.
With seven games remaining they are third, 20 points behind second-placed Shepley, two ahead of Scholes and four better off than Hoylandswaine, who are fifth but still in the race.
