Saddleworth Rangers, pictured celebrating last season’s Standard Cup final triumph over Higginshaw, face a difficult tie against Oldham St Anne’s in the quarter-final of the 2010-11 competition.
RUGBY LEAGUE: HOLDERS Saddleworth Rangers have been paired with Oldham St Anne’s in the quarter-finals draw of this season’s Standard Cup.
The battle between the two National Conference League sides at Shaw Hall Bank Road will provide a big draw for local amateur rugby league enthusiasts — especially in a season free of NCL-based derby clashes.
Last season’s finalists Higginshaw host Rochdale Cobras, Waterhead travel to Manchester-based outfit Folly Lane and the draw is completed by Rochdale Pennine League outfit Whitworth Spartans’ tie at home against Hollinwood.
No dates have been set for the games yet, with the Oldham Amateur League leaving it to the clubs involved to make such arrangements.
The line-up for the John Burke under-18s Trophy has also been determined.
Oldham St Anne’s face Waterhead, with the winner progressing to the final.
The loser will then go on to play Saddleworth Rangers in a straight knock-out tie for the right to appear in the final.
Masters event
THE BRIAN Agard Waterhead RL Masters event takes place for a third time next month.
The event, in which over-35s take part in a specially adapted version of the sport, is to be held at Waterhead Park on Sunday, September 5.
The aim is to build on the big success of previous events, with more teams and more off-field entertainment for the hundreds of visitors expected to attend.
