Stamford so close to title
Date published: 25 August 2010
GOLF: STAMFORD fell agonisingly short of claiming a share of the Oldham and District Golf League’s ‘A’ division title.
They went into their rearranged game away to Oldham needing all eight points to be joint winners with Dukinfield. They managed three of the four wins, but top pairing Stuart Fletcher and Carl Varey halved their game and the match finished 7-1.
It was a result that consigned Oldham to bottom spot when it had looked likely former league winners Brookdale would occupy that position.
Stamford’s winners were Andy Earlam and Ian Trow (2 & 1), Ian Grimsditch and Kevin Duffy (2 & 1), and Anthony Cavanagh and James Woodcock (4 & 3).
