Du Feu chases dream double

CRICKET: BANK Holiday Monday is all about the battle for silverware for the remaining hopefuls in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Twenty20 Cup competition at Friarmere.

Moorside face Uppermill (10.30am) before Austerlands take on Heyside (1.15pm).

The final takes place at 4pm.

Holders Heyside beat Uppermill in last year’s competition so a repeat showdown could be on the cards.

It would be unwise to dismiss the chances of outsiders Austerlands.

They have a useful pro in Sri Lankan Sidney De Silva, while their captain Kevin Du Feu has been in decent form.

Austerlands also have a host of promising young players, including Adam Sunderland and Joe Greenwood.

Austerlands have already won the Moore Cup - the division two knock-out competition - so are gunning for a silverware double.

Du Feu said: “We would love to complete the double. We are obviously underdogs despite the fact we beat Heyside in the league earlier this season.

“It is a tough test but they are beatable and that league result has probably taken some of the fear factor away for us.”

Top-order batsman Adam Young is out for the rest of the season after surgery on an old shoulder injury, but everyone else should be available for selection.

For Uppermill, it must feel like 2009 all over again. They are chasing second place in the table, they have qualified for Monday’s finals’ day and are in Sunday’s Tanner Cup final.

Moorside's defeat by Heyside was their first in nine matches, but they are still in the hunt for a top-five finish at the end of an intriguing season.
