Angling: IT’S all go at Twingates Angling Club, with plenty of gripping action resulting in some fine captures.
The pensioners’ match fished on the top lodge saw Cliff Winterbottom (Tight Lines) muster 15lb 8oz of carp, roach and skimmers. Frank Mills came second with 10lb 15oz.
In the evening match at the same venue, Tight Lines’ Dave Ireland led the way courtesy of a mixed net weighing in at 13lb 6oz, followed by club-mate Mark Darbyshire with 8lb 4oz.
TODMORDEN AS contested an open match on the Rochdale Canal, where Steve Crossley took first place with 11lb 11oz comprising of roach.
Dave Brierley’s 11lb 6oz earned the runner-up spot.
The club’s trophy match on Croft saw Tom Barlow’s 24lb 8oz of carp and skimmers take top place.
Jake Nightingale followed with his three carp net weighing in at 22lb 2oz.
Venue Guide
Park Lake – Still decent sport with skimmers, chub and tench showing. Pellet and caster the two best baits with pole and waggler the most productive methods. Day tickets available.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – Heavy rain put the fish down a bit but there are still plenty of them feeding with skimmers and tench on the match length. Further down towards the Arches there are chub and carp showing whilst plenty of silvers are showing in and around the Greenfield area. Day tickets £5 on the bank.
Rochdale Canal – I had a few fish at Castleton although the fishing was harder than I thought it would be after bagging the previous week. Pellet for bream and tench. Red maggot for hand sized skimmers.
Chadderton Mill Lodge – Words fail me on this water as it is stuffed with fish that feed all of the time. Caster and maggot up in the water for ide whilst paste fished right down the side for some
decent sized carp to double figures.
