New-look Mossley progress

NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY bounced back from their shaky start to the season by seeing off Witton Albion 2-0 in the FA Cup preliminary round.

Boss Shaun Higgins decided to ring the changes following their 5-0 defeat at the hands of Clitheroe last time out.

Andy Watson returned after work commitments and Danny Egan was recalled to the starting line up on the right.

They were joined by Kris King, Connor Hampson, Michael Oates and Lee Blackshaw.

Hampson, making his debut for the Lilywhites, got Seel Park buzzing after 37 minutes.

Meeting a Chris Rowney delivery, his initial effort was blocked from close range by goalkeeper Matt Cooper, but he made no mistake from the rebound.

The visitors improved after the interval and gave their hosts a couple of scares.

But in injury time, with the away side throwing men forward in an attempt to force an equaliser, Rowney managed to break away.

The assistant referee raised his flag as Matty Kay looked to collect the ball.

When Kay didn't intercept, Rowney continued his run into the penalty area, only to lay the ball off to the now onside Kay for a tap-in.

It handed the Lilywhites their first triumph of the campaign.

CHADDERTON crashed out of the same competition though, following a 3-1 defeat at New Mills.

Adam Edwards gave them the lead after 48 minutes but goals from Steve Moore, Adam Morning and Carlos Meakin saw the Millers progress.

IN the Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One, Oldham Boro took an early lead at AFC Liverpool.

Jermaine Steele found the net after 11 minutes for Tony Mills’ men.

But Steve Jones levelled before the break and Karl Gornell and an Aaron Stafford brace gave the hosts a comfortable 4-1 win.
