Werneth’s pair of aces
Date published: 01 September 2010
GOLF: TWO Werneth members holed in one at the same hole on the same day.
Windy conditions made for tough scoring for the James Waterhouse Trophy, one of the Garden Suburb club’s majors, on Saturday.
But that did not stop Jonathan Dooley and Tim Barrett landing their ace double at the 185-yard par-three 16th.
Five-handicapper Jonathan (22) struck with a seven-iron to land his first hole in one, while 52-year-old Tim, who plays off a 16 handicap, used a five-iron for the same result, also his first.
The trophy was lifted by Alan McMunn (76-12-64) on a card play-off from Dave Wright (77-13-64)
HOPES of local representation in the Archie Preston Trophy finals day were crushed at the double in the quarter final stage of the competition.
Saddleworth went down 5-2 away to Buxton High Peak in the mixed foursomes matchplay tie, while Werneth lost by the same scoreline at home to a strong Disley outfit.
Finals day is to be held at Denton, last season’s victorious club, in October.
