Newtonhurst book their final ticket

CRICKET:

NEWTONHURST will face Greengate in the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance Phoenix Trophy final after claiming a semi-final victory over Heyside thirds.

In a game reduced to 32 overs due to bad weather, Heyside posted 136 for seven, with G Drew top-scoring on 18 and S Drummond taking three for 28.

A stand between S Potts (33) and M Boyle (28) earned Newtonhurst victory.

The final takes place on Saturday at Droylsden (1.30pm).

Foresters clinched the Fawcett-Penney Supplementary Trophy at the expense of Europa Exiles.

They recorded 192 for nine thanks to B Leeks’ 37. A Hodgson took three for 35.

Europa lost three early wickets before R Lawrence scored 64 and A Hodgson contributed 23.

N Jarvey scored an undefeated 30, but Europa ended on 157 for seven.

 


A COMFORTABLE afternoon saw Failsworth Macedonia clinch victory over Robinsons in the Site Electrical North Manchester Cricket League Division One.

Replying to 100 for nine, Macedonia reached their total with six wickets in hand.

In Division Four, Springhead seconds were dismissed for 159 by opponents Ashton Ladysmith seconds, who won the contest for the loss of six wickets.

In Division Three on Sunday, Greenfield thirds posted 200 for nine prior to bowling out Littleborough Lakeside seconds for 160.

Elsewhere, Austerlands thirds claimed all of Bury thirds’ wickets for just 61, and promptly reached their goal with five wickets in hand.

And a day later, Swinton Moorside thirds clocked up 171 against Greenfield thirds, who were 13 runs shy of their target when the last wicket fell.

Division Four action saw Austerlands thirds earn a routine seven-wicket win at the expense of Woodbank thirds, who were dismissed for 101.
