WERNETH’S chance of clinching a top-five place and qualification for next season’s LCB Cup may have gone, but the Coppice outfit will be determined to finish off the Lake Garage CLL season in style.

Currently in seventh place thanks to a successful second half of the season, Andy Walker’s men need only three more points from their last two games to stave off the challenge of Monton and Weaste, the team immediately below them.

But Werneth will be taking a more positive view and have sixth-placed Littleborough in their sights.

The Hare Hill men are four points ahead of Werneth and face a tricky test at Monton and Weaste on Sunday.

Werneth, meanwhile, entertain a Walsden side who have suffered a disappointing summer despite the considerable efforts of professional Duminda Perera.

Oldham are having a fine end to their campaign and, with Mel Whittle closing in on 100 wickets in his farewell season, will be confident of clinching victory at Ashton.

Their hosts are also in a rich vein of form.

Bottom of the table at one stage, they have risen five places and, with confidence high, will pose a big threat on Sunday.

Royton’s season is drifting to a disappointing conclusion, but the Paddock men will be keen to reverse the current trend at Unsworth.

And the same goes for Crompton, who take on a rejuvenated Radcliffe outfit at Glebe Street.

Procter stays on at Royton

LUKE Procter will be Royton’s professional for a fourth season in 2011.

The Lancashire ace has scored over 900 runs and taken 42 wickets in 19 Lake Garage CLL games for the Paddock club this summer.
