CRICKET: A PLAYER allegedly struck an opponent with a bat during a Saddleworth and District Cricket League game yesterday.
The incident occurred in the match between Moorside and Bamford Fieldhouse at Turf Pit Lane.
It is claimed a Moorside fielder made comments towards a Bamford batsman, who hit out in response, striking the player across the back.
The episode happened near the end of the game when a batsman from Bamford was walking to the crease following the fall of a wicket.
The batsman took no further part in the match, which continued a few moments later. Bamford won by six wickets.
An umpires’ report will be sent to the Saddleworth League.
