Three-way battle for major prize

GOLF:
THREE Crompton and Royton golfers face an 18-hole play-off to decide the winner of the Zacharias Cup, one of the majors at the High Barn club.
Liam Marshall (77-11-66), Gary Hartley (77-11-66) and Mark Sinfield (75-9-66) were tied at the end of the competition.
They were followed by Alex Givvons (85-18-67), Jimmy Frizzell (83-15-68) and Peter Meggison (80-12-68).
The first division of a singles Stableford was won by Graham Harper (43 points), from Mark Sinfield (40).
Norman Firth (38) won division two from Gordon Lamb (35), who beat Derek Hopkinson and Keith Masters in a card-play-off.
DOUGLAS Hill was the first-round winner in the President’s Prize at Saddleworth.
He carded 81-18-63 to finish three shots clear of Jack Ingham (78-12-66), with David Park (73-6-67) in third after a card play-off.
The second round of the competition takes place this weekend.
GAIL Rowbotham won the EWGA Medal and Breakthrough Breast Cancer Brooch at Werneth.
But it was a close-run thing after she tied with Vivien Leaver on net 73.
