GOLF:
IF you can’t beat them, join them.
That was exactly what mother and daughter, Beryl and Kay Orme, did after husband Jack and sons Martin and Mark joined Saddleworth Golf Club.
Twenty years on, proud mum and her children scooped top honours at the Millgate Trophy at the Mountain Ash course.
Beryl (68) and eldest son Martin (36) won the foursomes format competition with 84-14.5-69.5.
And for good measure Kay (31), a regular among the prizes at Saddleworth, and brother Mark (33) recorded the best gross score with 78.
Beryl, from Moorside, said: “It was the first time we had won something as a family and it was a big thrill.
“It also came as quite a surprise as I haven’t played very much this year.”
