ANGLING: ORGANISER Tony Mayers won two of the three matches on a long weekend of pleasure fishing in Gunthorpe.
But he could only finish third in the main event, the Joe Mayers memorial match.
The first day’s session on the Trent, just below Gunthorpe weir, was a cracker.
Mayers led the way with 9lb 12oz of roach, dace, gudgeon and chub on stick float, maggot and caster.
Gary Schofield weighed in 9lb of mainly roach, followed by Barry Bedford’s 7lb 8oz of roach.
Day two also belonged to Mayers, with 10lb 3oz of roach, gudgeon and dace again on stick float and maggot.
But victory in the memorial, fished on a different section of the Trent, was clinched by Jeff Brierley, although the action was spoiled by two-foot waves.
ANGLERS competing in the latest SADAS open match on the Ward Lane length on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal found it a real struggle, with strong winds snapping several poles.
The winner was Pete Bryer, who used pellet at 11 metres for 5lb 7oz of skimmers and tench.
The Saddleworth and District members-only match, scheduled for this week, has been cancelled. It will now take place on September 19. Draw 8.30am. Fishing 9.30am to 2.30pm.
DAVE Colbran opted for his favourite long pole and caster tactics to win the Todmorden AS open on the Smithybridge lengths of the Rochdale Canal with 7lb 3oz of roach.
Alan Crook, the runner-up, also had roach in a 6lb 8oz net attracted by bread punch.
The latest Todmorden AS open, fished on the Rochdale Canal at Lanebottom, was won by Danny Stewart.
Opting for tip with pellet on the hook, he overcame blustery conditions to connected with 19lb 5oz of bream.
Todmorden AS are staging an open match on Sunday on Townhouse. Further information, ring (01706) 374689 or 07543 883714.
THE top four in the Tuesday evening final on Croft recorded 20lb or more.

John Mellor, who had an almost identical catch, weighed in 30lb 2oz for second place.
