Shaw, Droylsden battle it out for LCB Cup place
Date published: 10 September 2010
CRICKET: ALL eyes will be on Holebottom Clough and Oakfield on Sunday as the race for the one remaining place in next year’s LCB Cup reaches its conclusion.
Shaw and Droylsden are the sides in contention on the final day of the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.
They are separated by just seven points, in fifth and sixth respectively, and both teams will fancy their chances of finishing the campaign on a high note.
Shaw face a Glodwick outfit without influential professional Imran Aslam, while Droylsden take on basement boys Hollinwood.
The loss of Aslam is a blow for Glodwick, who are in the hunt for the JK Bacon Trophy (last-six competition) and the Brennand Cup (first and second points combined over the season).
Droylsden’s fortunes have improved dramatically in 2010 — Michael Schofield’s men did not win a league game last season — and qualification for the LCB Cup would reward the hard work which has taken place.
