Diggle earn derby bragging rights

FOOTBALL: UPPERMILL kicked off their Huddersfield League Division One campaign with a 1-0 home defeat to rivals Diggle.
Poor finishing from the hosts and great goalkeeping by Diggle’s McWatt ensured it was 0-0 at half-time.
A defensive mix-up led to the visitors taking the lead halfway through the second half.
Shortly afterwards Uppermill’s Baldwin was brought down in the box, only for Thompson to smash the resultant penalty against the bar.
Heyside earned a 7-2 win over HJ Academicals in Division Three.
Carl Winstanley scored a brace for Heyside.
James Taylor, James Leonard, Leon Perry, Micahel McCabe and Ryan Pugh also got on the scoresheet.
In Reserves Division Two, Heyside claimed a 4-2 victory at Scholes.
Steven Partington scored twice, with Matthew Nokes and Ashley Blakeman also finding the net for Heyside.
Reserves Division One action saw Chris Ventress score all five goals as Uppermill beat Diggle 5-0.
Uppermill ‘B’ earned an impressive 5-2 triumph at Scissett in Reserves Division Four.
Dean is a goal machine
ROYTON FC roared to a stunning 9-2 victory over FC Broadgate in the D and J Builders (North-West) Ltd Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division.
W Dean bagged four of the Royton goals, while R Quinlan and C Gevor both got two each and S Davies also added his name on the scoresheet. D Trainer scored twice for Broadgate.
Khartoum ‘A’ continued the goal-scoring theme by thumping FC Carsons 8-1 thanks to a hat-trick each from A Buckley and K Radcliffe.
R Radcliffe and M Pomfrey also got in on the act. M Fitzpatrick mustered Carsons’ solitary strike.
Chaddy End went down to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of High Crompton, with C Gregroy, T Ryan and S Rowbotham doing the damage.
C Taylor and J Warburton scored as Oddies Athletic beat Fitton Hall 2-1. D Whipp replied for Hall.
N Eastmond scored a hat-trick and D Brown also found the net in Rifle Range Reds’ 4-0 win over Failsworth Athletic.
Avro enjoy home comforts
AVRO earned a 3-1 home win against Hindsford in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester Premier Division.
James Hampson, Daniel Murray and Kelvin White scored.
There was no such joy for Hollinwood, who were thumped 9-1 at Old Alts.
Springhead drew 1-1 at home to Dukinfield Town, while Royton Town beat Daten 5-1 in the LFA Amateur Shield.
Michael Moss (two), Jason Titterington, Alan Beckett and Will Mellor got the goals.
Double tonic for Santos
SANTOS AFC won back-to-back games to climb to sixth in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Two.
They claimed a 4-2 victory at Droylsden Amateurs, before seeing off Rochdalians 4-1.
Player-manager Jonathan Phillips opened the scoring in the first match after 20 minutes.
Droylsden equalised just before the break. Santos’ lead was restored after the interval courtesy of a Tim Buxton header, before sloppy defending led to the hosts levelling matters again.
A Steve Cass throw-in set up Mark Brennan to tap in for the visitors, who put the game to bed through a Cass penalty five minutes from time.
Two goals each from Matthew Fitton and Chris Stockton sealed the win over Rochdalians.
In Division ‘C’, Santos reserves endured a nightmare start to the season with a 9-1 home defeat to Droylsden reserves.
Barrow treble swings thriller
CHADDERTONIANS defeated Castle Hill 4-3 in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division.
Visitors Hill took an early lead but a Steve Barrow hat-trick put Chadds in the driving seat.
Hill hit back with a couple of quickfire goals but Jack Barnes got the winner.
Division Two action saw Chadds’ second team beat Radcliffe Boys 4-1. Gavin Hattersley, Nick Hartley, Dave Jackson and Mark Kearns were on target.
Chadds’ ‘A’ team went down to a 4-0 defeat against Mostonians reserves in Division Three, but there was better news for the ‘B’ team in Division Six South.
They earned a 6-0 win at Bolton Wyresdale courtesy of an Adam Flint hat-trick, a John Adlington brace and a further strike from Tom Waldron.
