CRICKET: SHAW pocketed the last LCB Cup place with an emphatic 116-run win over Glodwick on the final day of the 2010 Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.

Droylsden, also chasing fifth spot, could do no more than sweep aside Hollinwood by 10 wickets, but it Andy Young’s men who will go into the hat for the first-round draw.

Shaw, thanks to 49 from professional Ryan Senior and Dave Andrew’s 43, scored 233 for six. Rick Harrington claimed four for 34 when it was the home side’s turn to bowl as Glodwick, without paid man Imran Aslam (returned home) and Mark Whitehead (injured) crashed to 117 all out.

Droylsden’s game was a non-event, with Hollinwood dismissed for 89. Gareth Dent hit an unbeaten 66 in reply.

Defeat for Glodwick’s first and second teams opened the way for Heyside to add the Brennand Aggregate Cup to the JK Bacon Trophy (last-six competition) and the Twenty20 Cup.

The firsts were grateful to pro Roelof Hugo — the South African was 80 not out — in a one-wicket victory over Austerlands, for whom opposite number Sidney De Silva made 91. The seconds, meanwhile, enjoyed a clear-cut 59-run win over their counterparts from Thorpe Lane.

Chairman and former captain Andy Barton made a rare appearance for champions Bamford Fieldhouse, who defeated Friarmere by four wickets at Hollin Lane.

Friarmere were 45 without loss before succumbing to 117 all out.

JP Lee collected six for 40 and Lloyd Kingston made 67 in Moorside’s 48-run win at Saddleworth, while James Baron scored 44 and bagged five for 46 in Uppermill’s 29-run defeat of Greenfield.
