Mossley sunk by late salvo
Date published: 20 September 2010

RUNNING BATTLE . . . Mossley’s Chris Rowney (white shirt) and Skelmersdale's Paul Woolcott fight for possession.
NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:
THREE goals in the last five minutes condemned Mossley to a 4-1 defeat at home to Skelmersdale in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
It left the Lilywhites, who had gone five games unbeaten before this encounter, still awaiting their first victory of the season at Seel Park.
Visiting goalkeeper Damien Eastham twice thwarted Mike Oates before Chris Almond put Skelmersdale in front after 29 minutes.
But the home faithful had something to cheer about three minutes later when Mike Fish prodded the ball into the net.
A stop-start second period looked likely to peter out until Steven Akrigg headed the visitors back in front. Ryan Wade made it 3-1 with a breakaway goal before Paul Woolcott put the match well and truly beyond Mossley’s reach.
OLDHAM Boro were held to a 0-0 draw at Abbey Hey in the FA Carlsberg Vase second round after extra-time.
The match will be replayed at Abbey Hey tomorrow as Boro's ground is unavailable.
