Cot surge clear after home win

SNOOKER: LITTLE Cot ‘A’ have opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Oldham Amateur Snooker League.
Despite a 38 break, D Balcerzak was unable to secure his point, but wins for D Newton, R Balcerzak and M Healey gave Cot a 4-2 home win against Moss Inn ‘B’.
At 2-2 and with only seven points in the aggregate, the final frame in the St Paul’s v CBC fixture was a real two-pointer.
Billy Inman made a fine 30 break for CBC, but Craig Hall held his nerve and took the frame and aggregate for the home side to give St Paul’s a 4-2 victory.
That saw them climb into joint second place alongside High Crompton, who also recorded a 4-2 victory, at home to Royton Band.
A 4-0 victory for Springbank ‘B’ has seen them rise to top spot in the cards section, one point ahead of Royton Band.
OLDHAM Snooker Academy made an explosive start to the new Manchester League season.
The ‘A’ team, the reigning champions, recorded an emphatic 6-1 win over Crucible ‘A’ in Division One, with new-boy Danny Gleeson, Ian Atherton, Sajid Zamurd and Farakh Ajaib on the mark.
Academy ‘B’ had a great result, sweeping aside last year’s runner-up Hazel Grove Cons 6-1 away from home, thanks to M Ehsan, Majid Ali, Abu Miah and Kamran Saeed.
And to complete a fine night’s work, the ‘C’ team overpowered Cheadle Sports Club 7-0 in Division Two. Nasser Khan, Naveed Mohammed, Nadeem Hussain, Khalid Mahmood and Tufail Ahmed were the winners.
The Academy’s ‘A’ team claimed top honours in the Manchester Summer League, with the ‘B’ in third.
