Win puts spring in their step

FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD produced their best performance of the season so far with a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten Manchester Gregorians in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.
The front three of James Kelly, Richard Bennett and Jamie Gibson proved far too mobile for the Gregs’ back four.
It was no surprise when they took the lead after 15 minutes when Gibson got his first of the season after the keeper had originally spilled Bennett’s shot.
Ten minutes later Bennett rounded the keeper and poked the ball into an empty net.
The game was effectively over after 35 minutes, when Bennett grabbed his second of the game and and 10th of the season when he fired an unstoppable shot into the corner.
The second half was a less eventful affair although it was still Springhead who had the better of the chances.
SANTOS moved into fourth place in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Two after a a 9-2 derby demolition of neighbours Oldham Victoria.
Matthew Fitton struck four times, with Steve Cass pouncing twice.
Tim Buxton, Keith Kurpass and Roufaye Aidara were also on target for Santos.
Division ‘C’ action saw Santos reserves draw 3-3 at Chorltonians.
Chris Sarsfield and Adam McKinney gave the visitors the lead, but after conceding three goals after the break, a late Chris Stockton header rescued a point.
