HOCKEY: OLDHAM Ladies Hockey Club’s first team got their new season under way with a 4-1 win over Urmston.
It wasn’t all plain sailing as Oldham ended the first half trailing 1-0.
But an inspiring team talk by manager Kevin Jackson saw Oldham dominate the second period.
Goals from Rebecca Blair, Karen Rowley and two from Louise Howard did the job.
Player of the match was awarded to Oona Cassidy.
The win sees Oldham sitting top of Greater Manchester Division One.
The second team edged out Glossop 4-3.
The game started brightly with an opening goal from Francesca Lees, but Glossop soon equalised.
Gill Lord restored Oldham’s lead before the break.
Glossop came back strongly in the second half with two goals in quick succession.
However, Oldham regrouped and Gill Lord completed a hat-trick to earn the victory.
Player of the match was jointly awarded to Laura Rice and Gill Lord, and the second team are fourth in Division One.
