RUGBY LEAGUE: ALL good things must come to an end.

After tasting victory in their opening two games of the campaign, Hollinwood slumped to a 38-12 defeat at Slaithwaite ‘A’ in Division Five of the Pennine League.

The home side were always in control, never allowing Hollinwood to play open rugby which had served them so well this season.

The kick-off was delayed after the referee failed to show, but when proceedings did get under way, Slaithwaite quickly put 12 points on the board.

Hollinwood were unable to stop the opposition forwards, who drove relentlessly down the centre of the pitch.

Andy Gorey gave the visitors a glimmer of hope with a converted try, but Slaithwaite were no mood to relinquish their lead.

Trailing 24-6 at the break, Hollinwood required a rapid score, but the second half followed a similar pattern to the first.

Paul Baxter put in some big hits in defence and made good yards in attack, but it was fellow replacement Mike Richmond who managed to score Hollinwood’s second try, again converted by Gorey.
