Angling: AUTUMNAL conditions greeted anglers in the Pilsworth Fishery Sunday open — but Steve Hall wasn’t complaining.
Adopting his favourite chopped worm and caster tactics, he maintained his good form with a 16lb 4oz net of some nice carp and bream.
Runner-up Pete Parkes (9lb 4oz) had a similar bag to the winner, while third-best Granville Walker tipped the scales at 9lb 4oz.
Roy Gough was fourth with 8lb 12oz, with regular money-winner Bob Harrison tying for fifth place with John Glover (8lb 8oz).
IAN Walvin weighed in with top honours in WD Lewis Builders corporate day on a patchy Border Fisheries.
He had 18lb of carp and skimmers on the long pole, chopped worm and caster.
Brass Bedford, in second place, was drawn on the next peg, where he landed 17lb 8oz of skimmers and carp on corn, caster and meat at 10 metres.
Darren Baxendale was third with 11lb of carp on pellet.
DEREK Hudson led the way in the Cranberry AC match on Marsh Lake.
He had a 15lb 4oz catch of silvers on caster.
Second-best Jim Wild recorded a level 6lb, which featured skimmers on caster and pellet.
There was a tie for third place, with Tony Lees and Steve Orr both landing 5lb mixed bags on maggot and caster down the side.
THE SADAS open match on the Diggle Canal, arranged for Sunday, has been cancelled.
LEES and Hey AS are staging their last match of the year on Fir Tree Fisheries, Leigh, on Sunday.
EIGHTS Bells AC are holding their last match of the year on Sunday.
Bradshaw Fisheries is the venue, and to book telephone Steve Brookes on (0161) 681 5139 or Les Powell on 07974 333347.
Venue Guide
Park Lake: Pleasure anglers continuing to catch. Maggot and caster for small perch, chub and roach. Odd skimmer and tench to pellet. Day tickets available.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal: Pegs next to locks as good as anywhere for carp and bream. Day tickets available on bank.
Rochdale Canal: Always a good water in winter, with bread punch coming into its own. Red maggot can also attract plenty of roach and skimmers. Still tench and bream being caught.
Chadderton Mill Lodge: As usual plenty of fish coming to maggot, caster, pellet and paste. Fishing long or short doesn’t matter.
Twingates: Both lodges fishing okay for mixed bags. Maggot, caster and pellet all producing fish. Members only.
