FOOTBALL: UPPERMILL secured a 2-0 win at Netherton in the Huddersfield and District League Division One.

Chris Ventress scored both goals, taking his tally for the season to nine.

Division Three action saw Heyside continue their impressive start to the season as they beat YMCA 5-3.

After trailing 1-0, two goals from Leon Perry and a Michael McCabe effort put Heyside in control.

Two quickfire goals drew YMCA level, but James Taylor restored Heyside’s lead shortly before the break.

Jake Warburton put the outcome beyond doubt with a second-half goal.

In Reserves Division One, Uppermill were full of goals as they raced to an emphatic 8-0
victory over West End.

Scott Thistleton got a hat-trick, Phil Austin and Ryan Hughes grabbed two goals each, and Mark Winterbottom completed the rout.

Heyside suffered their first loss of the campaign in Reserves Division Two, losing 6-3 to Diggle ‘A’.

Mark Kingsley pounced twice and Matthew Nokes was also on target.

Royton cop a cup win

ROYTON Town survived a tricky tie by beating Merseyside Police 1-0 in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League LFA Amateur Shield.

Jason Titterington scored the winner.

Town manager Phil Haigh said: “I am pleased we kept our discipline and managed to record a clean sheet.”

Haigh’s side travel to Euxton Villa in the next round, on October 16.

Premier Division action saw Springhead lose 2-1 at high-flying Hindsford.

Carl Taylor missed three good chances for the visitors and Richard Bennett hit a post.

After Paul Stevenson hit the set-piece wide, Hindsford went up the other end and scored.

They doubled their lead five minutes after the interval after slack marking.

The visitors were given hope after 70 minutes when Callum Grant scored his first goal at this level, but the equaliser never arrived.

Elsewhere Hollinwood lost 6-1 at home to Old Alts.

Hollinwood have lost all eight league games this term and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

It is in stark contrast to last season, when they won 14 matches on their way to a 10th place finish.
