CRICKET: JACK Kelliher has been handed a three-year ban by the Armstrongs Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s executive committee.

The Bamford Field-house player struck a Moorside opponent with his bat during a game on September 5.

The Hollin Lane outfit have also been fined £500 and will start next season on minus 20 points for failing to control one of their players.

Kelliher, who joined Bamford from Bootle, reacted to a comment made by a Moorside fielder. He was on his way out to bat when the incident occurred. He was led from the field and took no further part in the match.

Classed as a category one offence in the league handbook’s disciplinary tariff, he could have been given a lifetime ban.

The length and details of Kelliher’s suspension have been reported to the Lancashire Cricket Board and it is unlikely he will be able to play in any other competition until after the three years is up.

Bamford have appealed against the fine imposed on the club and the points penalty.

DROYLSDEN have replaced Shaw in next year’s LCB Cup after the Holebottom Clough outfit were found to have fielded an ineligible player.

Opening batsman James Ormerod only appeared on the Shaw teamsheet in three matches, two of which were on the final two days of the season.

League rules state that a player can only play in any of the last three games of the season if he has featured at least twice previously in that season.

Shaw have been deducted the 40 points gained in the final two fixtures, which has pushed them down to sixth.

MOORSIDE have been deducted 102 points from the final Division One table after it was found they had inadvertantly fielded an ineligible player.

Former Greetland CC opening batsman Matt Britton, who played nine games for the Turf Pit Lane outfit in 2010, was banned for two years by the Halifax League after an incident at the their presentation evening last November.

He scored one century for Moorside and played in the Twenty20 Cup final defeat by Heyside.

Moorside have lost every point in the games featuring Britton — they have gone from seventh to bottom of the table — with their opponents awarded the average number of points gained by the winning teams on that day.
