HOCKEY: OLDHAM Ladies confirmed their status as Greater Manchester League Division One front-runners by seeing off City of Manchester 3-1 at home.

After a bright start, substitute Karen Rowley opened the scoring for Oldham with a fine effort.

The advantage quickly doubled thanks to a cracker from Ooan Cassidy and the home side were two goals to the good at half-time.

Oldham continued to assert their dominance after the break and player-of-the-match Gill Jones struck a third, before City managed a late consolation.

OLDHAM'S injury-stricken second team were defeated 3-0 at newly-relegated Manto Ladies of Bolton, but two umpiring decisions stuck in the throat for the visitors.

Fielding a side including six third-team players, Oldham put on a fine performance to match the home side and with eight minutes to go appeared well-set for a point.

However, thanks in no small part to a pair of passes that appeared to be illegal, Manto scored three times to take the points.

Jordanna Boon, Lisa Staniland and Laura Rice shared the player-of-the-match honours for Oldham.

The third team's match was rained off.
