AMATEUR FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town surrendered a two-goal lead at home to rivals Springhead in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Anthony Jones gave the hosts the lead after 13 minutes, following impressive build-up play from Jason Titterington and Alan Beckett.

Town were in the ascendancy and, with Jones and Will Mellor dominant in midfield, all looked well for the home team.

Titterington and Beckett were causing the visitors’ defence problems and it was no surprise when Town increased their lead after 27 minutes.

Christian Fraser rose to head in a corner and double the advantage.

The deficit was halved 10 minutes later though when former Town striker Carl Taylor capitalised on some sloppy defending to slot home.

And two minutes before the interval it was all-square when Taylor hammered in from the edge of the box.

Chances were few and far between in the second half, although Town’s Beckett struck a post.

Michael Moss was also unlucky not to get on the end of a cross from Luke Blackman.
