TABLE TENNIS: LAST season’s averages winner, Darryl Meredith, was at the top of his game for Werneth ‘A’ in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
He won all three of his matches in what was an otherwise tight encounter against Honeywell ‘B’ as the clash ended in a 5-5 draw.
Steve Barber and Tom Ryan performed well for Honeywell in winning two games each.
Dave Cheetham and Paul King had excellent wins over Tom Lang and Ian Gerrard respectively, but couldn’t prevent their Hollinwood ‘B’ team going down 8-2 to BAE ‘A’. Tony Smith was unbeaten for Aerospace.
In Division Two, Deaf Club ‘A’ recorded a hard fought 6-4 win over Unison ‘A’.
Liaquat Ali registered a treble for Deaf Club and was supported by Ian Cockcroft (two wins). Mike Brierley replied with a double for Unison.
Droylsden, with trebles from Tim Greenald and Mike Truter, bagged a 7-3 victory at Werneth ‘D’.
Darren Mitzi, of Werneth ‘E’, was in superb form, netting a hat-trick in his team’s 5-5 draw with Uppermill ‘B’ in Division Three.
Howard Meadham and Stuart Hanson responded with two wins each and narrowly went down to that man Mitzi in five games.
Gilder’s Martin Nicholls is at the top of his game, and he again won three against St Saviour’s ‘A’.
But Nicholls’ effort was in vain as they went down 6-4. In Division Four, Callum Allman was the star player for Our Lady’s ‘B’ in the 5-5 draw against Honeywell ‘G’.
He won all his three matches, and played in the winning doubles. Ronnie Holt and Leo Cogger won two apiece for Honeywell.
